June newsletter

June is a big milestone month. Between graduation, Father’s Day, and Pride month, June can be celebratory, poignant, and sometimes downright painful for those who are grieving. We hope these resources will help bring balance and healing.

Navigating graduation

It’s hard when young people mourn for someone who “should have” been at graduation cheering. Here are ways to talk with them about their grief, and five ideas to help them feel connected to the person who died.

How to honor Father’s Day

We know this holiday can bring up a lot of feels for those grieving a dad or father-like figure. We hope these suggestions make the day gentler, and it’s even okay to “cancel” the holiday like this mom did!

Two ways to pay tribute

For the milestones (above) or any other one in June, we encourage you to light a digital candle in honor of your person. Perhaps you might also dedicate a donation, knowing your gift will go towards supporting grieving kids through our no-cost summer camps.

Support queer & grieving youth

What’s it like for a member of the LGBTQIA+ community to have someone significant in their life die, and they have not come out to them? Our Clinical Director Allison Crooks shares insights, and how we can support queer youth in this situation.

Our new grief camp on Maui

In addition to opening a camp in Maryland this summer, we’re partnering with the Four Seasons Resort to launch ExperienceMaui, a free 4-day, 3-night camp for kids on Maui (ages 9-12) who’ve experienced the death of a parent, primary caregiver, sibling or other significant person.

In the news…

“Inside a Grief Camp,” the 20-minute documentary set at Experience Camps, won the prestigious Gold Telly Award for their “Video Journalism” category!

We were featured in Yahoo! Life.

Experience Camps was featured on the ABC News podcast “Perspective.”

Okay, it’s not actually in the news, but we’re now selling Experience Camps joggers and baseball caps! And don’t forget about our awesome PRIDE tank! Your purchase supports grieving children at camp.
