Keion, a MidwEx camper, is very smart and sweet child who is always willing to lend a helping hand. Keion is the kind of kid who is always asking questions because he wants to understand everything that goes on around him. Despite losing his dad in the middle of the school year, Keion still excels academically and in sports. Keion has played football for the past 5 years with the Detroit PAL (Police Athletic League) organization. He’s received several awards such as the D-Team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year and Homecoming King.
Ever since Keion’s father died, he is even more compassionate and empathetic of others and their feelings. Experience Camps has been amazing for Keion as he gets the opportunity to speak about his loss to people outside of his family.
When Keion got back after camp he gushed to his mom about all the activities (especially tubing) and how he met new friends who had gone through what he had experienced. He made friends who understood, who got it. Keion now knows that he is not alone and other kids have similar stories.
Keion’s mother Valecia told us, “when I sign my kids up for extracurricular activities whether it’s for school or outside of school I tell them, ‘I’m preparing you for greatness and I’m adding one more tool to your personal arsenal.’ I can truly say Experience Camps has helped me in giving Keion one more tool for his personal arsenal to prepare him for greatness and in becoming a well-rounded young man despite this tragedy that has happened in our lives.”
