Experience Camps for Grieving Children Names Actress Beanie Feldstein a New Board Member

WESTPORT, CT, January 22, 2024 – Golden-Globe nominated actress, writer, and producer Beanie Feldstein–who starred in movies including Lady Bird and Booksmart–was recently named to the Board of Directors of Experience Camps, an award-winning national nonprofit that transforms the lives of grieving children through summer camp programs and innovative, year-round initiatives.

For Beanie, the mission is personal. In 2017, her journey with grief began when her brother died unexpectedly. Years later, in 2023, she learned of Experience Camps while scrolling on TikTok and landing on a video of a young camper talking about the death of his dad and how camp made him feel less alone. “I immediately fell down a virtual rabbit hole,” she said, “looking up every video and scavenging the organization’s website.” She messaged Experience Camps on Instagram, saying she wanted to get involved however possible.

A few months later, Beanie became a bunk counselor at our camp in Maine, teaching drama and winning the hearts of her bunk and other campers and staff. Says Beanie, “Being a volunteer at camp cracked my heart wide open. It changed me forever as a human and I know that the work Experience Camps is doing deserves to extend to every child that has to experience grief. I am committed to dedicating myself to making sure that happens.”

Beanie is so committed that she applied to be a Board member with the aim of using her public platform to spread the word on the programs and mission of Experience Camps. She believes “creating a space for grieving children to feel completely comfortable and in community is crucial and deeply necessary.” Already, she was interviewed in Vogue magazine discussing the work of Experience Camps and “plans to continue to speak about grief and Experience Camps publicly to open up connections and fundraising opportunities.”
