Each summer at camp, grief-related activities are woven into our camp day as a way to integrate loss, give campers a way to express themselves, and teach new coping skills. This year, we introduced “6 Word Memoirs”. These memoirs allowed campers to reflect on their grief, memories, and feelings in a way that didn’t feel too big or overwhelming, though the thoughts contained in those 6 words are so incredibly impactful.
“I know I am never alone”
“They tell me you’d be proud.”
“Though it hurts, I will smile”
Six word memoirs are a great way to reflect on our personal stories and tell a long story in a few words. They can be about our grief or really anything in our lives. Grab a paper and pen and start writing the words that come to you about how you’re feeling right now.
