Volunteer for Family Camp

Volunteers

Family Camp volunteers are the fuel in a fun-filled weekend for the whole family. Throughout the weekend, they create opportunities for caregivers and campers to laugh, be silly, and create space for their grief journeys as individuals and as a family unit.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Be the key contact for one family while at camp. As the family contact, volunteers will ensure families understand their activity schedules, and provide support as needed. Depending on family size, a volunteer may be assigned two families.
  • Lead various activities, from instructionals to evening activities.
  • Provide support as needed to the Camp Director, helping the camp operate safely, efficiently, and with maximum levels of fun and connection.

Grief Specialists

Grief Specialists at Family Camp are masters-level mental-health professionals who facilitate connection and the development of coping skills.

In a Grief Specialist role, you will:

  • Lead clinical activities and sharing circles at camp for both caregivers and campers.
  • Support behavioral and emotional needs of caregivers and campers as needed throughout the weekend.
  • Provide support as needed to the Camp Director.

Photographers

Photographers play an important role in capturing the magic of camp. These photos help capture memories that families can look at year-round and share the story of camp with our larger community.

As a photographer, you will:

  • Take photos of caregivers, campers, and volunteers throughout the weekend.
  • Work with the camp leadership to upload photos to our online system.

All volunteers and staff must:

  • Have at least two years of experience as an Experience Camps staff member.
  • Complete required online training and in-person orientation before family arrival.
  • Be available for the entire three days of Family Camp.
  • Stay together in a bunk as a group. Staff will not stay in bunks with their families.
  • Abide by all guidelines in the Staff Handbook.
  • Be fully present with families, listening when they want to talk, and giving them your full attention.
  • Bring your unique talents, genuine heart, endless enthusiasm, and best self to this incredible community of amazing humans.
