Calder Jacob Sloan’s life ended tragically on April 13, 2014 just seven days after his seventh birthday. Today, Calder “Mr. Awesome” Sloan’s mantra: Adventure. Laughter. Kindness lives on through a non-profit’s work.
Calder was a loving, athletic, spirit-filled, big-hearted and beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy. In the immediate wake of his death Calder’s self portrait, created only weeks before he passed, inspired a viral campaign that resonated globally. Spearheaded by dear family friends: Jim Cahill and Dana Zuckerman, the photo of Calder, his proud smile and his drawing spread worldwide and Mr. Awesome took flight.
In the dark days, weeks, and years after his death his parents learned how much he would change not only their world – but the world at large. They say in unfathomable times “There are no words”, but there are pictures…and more importantly good deeds.
To ensure Calder would never be forgotten and guided by his memory, a non-profit foundation honoring both him and his equally amazing brother Caleb was created. His name would be spoken, his smiling face would be eternally present, and his loving spirit would forever contribute to the world.
Calder’s heart provided the energy, hundreds of people including Caleb, his classmates and many children, became his hands.
Now their legacy lives on through Caleb and Calder Sloan’s Awesome Fund, where the support and generosity of others can provide Adventure, Laughter, and Kindness for the grieving children that Experience Camps serves each summer.
To increase the impact of Calder’s legacy, please consider making a gift.
